Planning on Relief on Salary Payments during Maternity Leave
The business news is that the government is preparing to make big wages by implementing labor reforms to please the country’s workers, laborers. For this, before going to the general election, efforts will be made to pass the wages and industrial relations code from Parliament.
Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said on Sunday that in order to maintain the social security and welfare aspects of the employees better and more intact, we are working towards improving the various labor laws. Its purpose is to make the business easier. The Minister also said that the government has taken several initiatives in the labor and employment sector this year.
The business news of Ministry is also working on Social Security and Welfare Code. The initial draft of the Code was put on the Ministry’s website on March 16, 2017. This is sought from the relevant parties. After considering the views of various parties, the ministry has asked for a comment on the revised draft on March 2018. After trilateral discussions with the Union and the employees, the Ministry has recently released the draft of the Social Security and Welfare Bill, 2018 for inter-ministerial consultations. Now after the Labor Ministry is reviewing the Standing Committee of Parliament, the revised wages are in the process of getting clearance from the Union Cabinet with the intention of passing the Bill of Bill in parliament. The decision to remove certain provisions: The Ministry has decided to remove certain provisions considering the criticisms of the labor organizations. According to the recommendations of the second National Commission on Labor, the Ministry has taken steps to bring about four codes on wages, industrial relations, social security and welfare, work-related safety, health and working conditions. For this, by combining existing central labor laws, it is being made simple and rational.
The business news amount of gratuity doubled: The Labor Ministry was able to pass the Gratuity Payment (Amendment) Bill, 2018, in addition to other things this year. With this tax-free gratuity has increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
Millions of rupees have been increased from the gratuity amount to Rs. 10 lakhs after the new law comes.
The business news of Ministry is also working on measures to provide some relief to the wage pay during maternity leave so that employers are encouraged to appoint women. The Ministry has noticed that the increase in the duration of maternity leave along with the salary has affected women’s employment. The Maternity Benefit Act, 2017, came into effect from 1 April last year. With the salary, the period of leave has been increased from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. The Ministry has proposed to lift the salary of seven weeks to encourage employers. After getting approval from the appropriate forum, this policy will be finalized.
